Shadow Man Witch Doctor Dress
“That’s cute,” Havoc said, eyeing the print on her shirt dress. The Kelly-Green background was littered with stars, moons, and crossbones in black and white, while the 50s-style flared hemline included detailed illustrations of a shadowman, a zombie girl, and a black cat.
Naomi shrugged, then stepped through a beaded curtail into a dimly lit parlor. Havoc took his place on the opposite side of the room, where he steepled his long, dark fingers underneath his chin and waited for Naomi to begin.
Wordlessly, she closed her eyes and raised her hands upward. The lights throughout the parlor shifted from orange-yellow to bright green, and the wall to her right—decorated from floor to ceiling with dozens of voodoo dolls—began to shake with an invisible force. The power washed over the suspended figures like an ocean wave, crashed down into their cloth and moss bodies, and forced out the souls bound to them.
The room echoed with the cries of maimed and mutilated spirits until Naomi opened her eyes and lowered her hands, as if turning down the volume on a stereo. The parlor fell deathly silent and the lights returned to their normal citrine hue. Havoc’s wicked grin seemed unusually bright in their soft incandescence.
